Understanding the Rights of Children: A Message from Uttama Surve

 Hello everyone! 

I am Uttama Surve, a 14-year-old coordinator of the "Uttama Child Protection Awareness Program and Protection Organization." Today, I want to discuss a very important topic - What are the rights of children? This is an issue that affects millions of children worldwide, and it is not just my responsibility, but all of ours, to ensure the safety and well-being of every child.

I take pride in the fact that my dad, Aniruddha Surve, who is a dedicated PLV (Para-Legal Volunteer), supports me in this important work. His guidance and support empower me to achieve my goals. Together, we are dedicated to creating a safe and happy environment where all children have the opportunity to fulfill their dreams.

Every child possesses fundamental rights that are inalienable and cannot be denied. These rights are enshrined in both the Constitution of India and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which India adopted in 1992.

The UNCRC provides a framework that recognizes children as citizens, outlining their economic, social, cultural, and political rights. Central to this Convention is the principle that the best interests of the child should be a primary consideration. It acknowledges several fundamental rights, including:

• - The right to life

• - The right to a name and identity

• - The right to be nurtured within a family

• - The right to express opinions and have them heard

• - The right to protection from abuse and exploitation

Categories of Children’s Rights :-

The UNCRC encompasses a comprehensive list of children's rights, articulated across 54 articles. These rights can be categorized into four main areas:

1. Right to Survival :- This includes the right to be born, have a birth registered, receive a name, attain citizenship, and access immunization and essential healthcare.

2. Right to Development :- Every child has the right to vaccinations, quality nutrition, education, play, and social interaction. They should have opportunities for vocational training and access to safe recreational facilities.

3. Right to Protection :- Children have the right to live with their parents or guardians in a safe environment, free from abuse and neglect. This holistic approach ensures that children not only receive protection from harm but also access to organizations that foster their welfare.

4. Right to Participation :- Children have the right to express their views on matters that affect their lives, and adults have a responsibility to listen seriously. This involvement is crucial in various domains—from family decisions to legislative matters concerning children.
